Artisan Goddess Dolls, hand sculpted by Rotorua Artist Karen Hansen (Daniels)
Mixed Media, 2022
This spirit doll came dancing into the world unexpectedly. She was meant to be a traditional Nature Goddess, maybe with a leafy gown and wire circlet.... instead, she manifested huge wire rimmed glasses, pouty lips, a fairy skirt and rainbow hair! She did not want to be traditional, or young... just purely, unapologetically herself, however the damnwell way she desired and felt on any given day.
She is not the Maiden, or the Mother... however, she has been both in her time, and carries the wisdom and experience within her heart. She was created into the wee hours of the mornings, under the crone moon - in it's waning stages leading up to Lughnasad, the time of first harvest.
She comes into our lives to be a creative companion, and remind us of the power of true authenticity. She doesn't give a toss anymore what the neighbours think, she knows that time is precious, and she only gets one lifetime in this body - why should she waste it being anyone but herself
Acknowledgment and Honour to Artist Claire McLeary, who introduced me to the art of character dollcraft.
